Russia: official fees for registration of IP increased

In brief

The Russian Government has increased the official fees for patent and trademark prosecution services provided by the Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property (“Rospatent”) .

The new fees are effective as of 5 October 2024.

Key changes for patent and design services:

  • Official fees for the majority of services have increased by 25-30%;
  • The grant fee has been significantly raised. It now includes annuities for the first five years of patent validity, and further annuities are to be paid for every five years instead of annually. If annuities for the current five-year term have been paid only in part, patent owners are required to pay the annuities set for the current five-year term minus the amounts already paid;
  • Late payment of filing and patent grant fees is available for up to 12 months, subject to a 100% surcharge;
  • Fees for invalidation of Eurasian patents and designs in Russia have been introduced.

Key changes related to trademark services:

  • Official fees for the majority of services have increased by 25-30%;

  • The 30% discount for electronic filing of trademark applications was cancelled;

  • Fees for invalidation of EAEU trademarks and appellations of origin in Russia have been introduced.
