Galina Grishanova specializes in IP, including general IP advice, protection of rights to IP results, and registration of trademarks and appellations of origin. Galina represents clients in administrative and judicial disputes related to the above areas in Russia and successfully coordinates similar efforts in foreign countries, including but not limited to CIS countries. Galina Grishanova is registered with the Russian Patent and Trademark Office as a trademark attorney.

Representative Legal Matters
  • Successfully represented the interests of a major Russian fat-and-oil products producer in a dispute with a competitor, which included simultaneous submission to Rospatent of a multitude of objections against the client's trademarks and a series of claims for early termination of the legal protection of the client's marks in the Intellectual Property Rights Court. All the objections and court claims of the opposing parties were left unsatisfied.
  • Acted for a major Korean food producer Paldo Co., Ltd in the matter involving seeking well-known status for its flagship ДОШИРАК (DOSHIRAK in Cyrillic) trademark used for instant noodles. It is the first case when a trademark has been recognized well-known in Russia in the absence of consumer awareness of the identity of the applicant.
  • Successfully represented one of the largest local producers of alcohol-free beverages in a whole series of cases. This included the defense of Baikal (one of the most famous brands of non-alcoholic beverages going back to Soviet times) at Rospatent and in the Intellectual Property Rights Court, when it was challenged by a competitor on a series of standalone grounds. The brand was successfully defended and the parties to the dispute achieved reconciliation and started to cooperate with each other.
  • Successfully represented Scotch whiskey producers in the Patent Dispute Chamber in a case of invalidating a third-party trademark confusingly similar to a client's trademark.
  • Helped a large live entertainment company to acquire its trademark - of famous live motorsport event tour and television show operated by the client, which was registered as a trademark by a third party in bad faith.
  • Represented the interests of an international company that manages more than fifty unique and historic hotels, trains and cruise liners in a dispute with a long-standing competitor. Victory in a series of court cases gave the client the possibility to enter the Russian market. A few years later the competitor tried to retrieve the situation via the courts, and also tried to register trademarks reminiscent of the client's marks. However, the competitor was unsuccessful in all these disputes.
  • Successfully represented a veteran Swiss watch-making company in a judicial dispute over annulment of a series of unfair registrations of the trademarks in relation to clothes and accessories in Russia.
  • Successfully represented an American multinational technology corporation in a judicial dispute over invalidation of legal protection of a client’s famous trademark because of its alleged failure to comply with the conditions of registrability as prescribed by law. The legal protection of the disputed registration was not invalidated.
  • Successfully represented a leading European research and drug manufacturing company, in a dispute with a producer of generics, i.e. branded drug equivalents, who succeeded in obtaining legal protection for trademarks confusingly similar to a client-developed international non-proprietary name. The courts of all levels acknowledged the fact that the granting of legal protection to such trademark by the Russian PTO was an infringement on the requirements of legislation.
  • Represented a major publishing house in a series of disputes over early termination of legal protection granted to trademarks reproducing the names of an array of world-known glossy magazines in the name of a major Russian producer of alcoholic beverages. The disputes ended in amicable settlements, free disposal of rights to most of the disputed trademarks in favor of the client and the launching of a joint business project.
