Victor Petrov specializes in resolution of disputes in state courts, and in insurance matters, including pre-trial and court resolution of insurance claims. Victor’s experience includes representing major international and Russian clients in commercial, corporate and libel disputes, bankruptcy procedures, and administrative court proceedings.

Banking projects
  • Represented a client in one of the country’s largest disputes on challenging credit covenants.
  • Represented a subsidiary of one of Russia’s major oil companies in a series of disputes on recovering sums under bank guarantees.
Insurance projects
  • Represented a major retailer of sports goods in a dispute with an insurance company over a subrogation claim.
  • Provided legal support for the pre-trial resolution of a complicated insured event under insurance against disruption of production; developed a multi-stage strategy for guaranteeing payment of insurance settlements by all reinsurers.
  • Represented a client in a case on claiming an insurance payout for the loss of complicated technical equipment outside the RF.
Commercial disputes
  • Defended State Corporation Rosatom against claims for losses caused by bad faith behavior (a precedent-setting dispute) and during challenges to the validity of an investment partnership agreement.
  • Provided legal support in a corporate dispute over the fate of a major mining asset worth more than 70 billion rubles - one of the most talked-about court cases of 2020.
  • Represented a Russian mobile phone operator in a series of disputes: on the infringement of exclusive trademark rights, on recovery of debt under an agency contract, on application of injunctive measures in support of arbitration at the LCIA.
  • Represented individuals and legal entities in disputes over protecting the client’s good name and business reputation.
  • Represented a global pharmaceutical company in claims for protection against unfair competition, withdrawal of products from the Russian market and granting access to the compensation fund of the foreign parent company.
